IBUYAMBO

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvAiabTnpCI

A Celebration of the Xhosa indigenous music. This award winning group of the SAMA awards and world known performers, Ibuyambo ensemble will do a live performance with the former leader of Amampondo now a leader of Ibuyambo with many African instruments.

Traditional music artist and cultural historian Dizu Zungula Mzikantu Plaatjies was born in Lusikisiki in Mpondoland and, as a child, showed an aptitude for depicting traditional ways. His father, Dr Shadrack Plaatjies, was instrumental in developing his son’s artistic needs. As a traditional doctor he made it a point that his children were present to witness every occasion and, when the time came, to participate physically in traditional ceremonies.

Since the formation of his group Amampondo he has travelled world-wide, sharing his cultural exchange ideas with great success. In 1997, after Amampondo’s international tour Dizu returned to South Africa and began lecturing African dance and music at UCT. He and his group visited Sweden and Norway in 1998 by invitation of the governments to conduct traditional music sessions in educational institutions in their countries. He has been encouraged by great artists and internationally acclaimed people from all walks of life, among others: Evangelisto Muyanda the great composer of the Bugandan tribe in Uganda, the Austrian Dr Gehard Kubik, transcriber of Ugandan music who specialises in Amadinda xylophone, and the great Cuban drummer Changuito.

Dizu regards his work in communities, educational institutions and with many visiting scholars, as a challenge to the present and future government to respect and conserve the traditional heritage of the people; to see the world through the eyes of the people.

Miles Sievwright

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbftJp1DnTo

Miles Sievwright plays his guitar like a spider spins a web - swift and nimble; light and effortless - his fingers flung over the strings with the elegance of instinct. His songs, so delicate they seem to materialize from the air around him - like a subtle change in light, like a tapestry sown from some barely visible thread. Lost in the pace and energy of his performance, you'll be surprised when a song suddenly comes to an end, and hangs there, suspended for a moment like a glistening network of meaning, before it dissolves into new chords, spinning the next web to both capture and free your imagination.

Curtis Masemole - young Hout Bay talent who will be strutting his stuff...

Sons of Settlers

www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBDRgWYmT5E
Sons of Settlers is a band based in Cape Town South Africa. Sons Of Settlers' current sound has been described as a blending of melodic rock with elements of folk and synthesis. Comprising of dynamic acoustic and electric guitars, solid bass lines, energetic drumming and melodic vocals. The band is made up out of members from the now dormant bands New Holland and Foto Na Dans. When these musical outfits seised to be a creative outlet, the group now known as Sons of Settlers was formed to keep making original music. The band formed when two of the members from New Holland, Gerdus Oosthuizen and Reyno Buckle, started to create new music together. Leroi Nel, the lead vocalist of the former Afrikaans rock outfit Foto Na Dans, joined shortly afterwards to add to the creative process. A drummer was needed and Gerdus asked his friend and drummer, Justin Bosman, to join and he did without hesitation. Gerdus and Justin have both studied through the accredited Berklee College of Music and have obtained qualifications in music and sound studies. Since the band has launched in February 2012, it has release several online videos which include the song Stay Together which is a favorite among listeners. The band has also released a free downloadable song entitled Climb On My Back. The music video for Climb On My Back can also be viewed online. Sons Of Settlers have played throughout the Cape and have also done a northern tour playing in Johannesberg, Pretoria and Durban. The band has performed at Synergy, Ramfest, Park Acoustics, Wacky Wine Festival and many other venues and events, sharing the stage with the likes of Die Heuwels Fantasties, Holiday Murray, Black Handed Kites, Van Coke Kartel and more. The band has produced, recorded and mixed their debut album "Lullabies for the Restless" independently which is set to be released in 2014.

Olga Leonard and Babette Viljoen are "Key Changes", an exciting combo of piano and accordion, bringing warm and inviting flavours to old classics and popular songs. Joining them is Cape Town Jazz drummer Claude Cozens..

MCCREE was formed in 2008 by former Kelvin Declined frontman, Mark McCree, who, after writing new songs for an intial solo project, put a band together and after a few rehearsals, something special was happening – MCCREE was born! From a sold out EP launch, to signing with SONY MUSIC and the release of their full debut album ‘OF HOPES AND DREAMS’ which showcased their powerful, melodic sound, their first single ‘WHEN I WAS 17’ did very well on both college radio aswell as national radio, notably 5FM! MCCREE’s rise has seen critical acclaim from both the media and peers, resulting in MCCREE playing shows with Johnny and Jesse Clegg, Prime Circle, Parlotones and appearing at South Africa’s biggest festivals namely OPPIKOPPI and SYNERGY.  MCCREE are currently working on their follow-up album with Producer Theo Crous, and it promises to be ground-breaking, with the first single dropping on local radio stations at the end of October 2014.
