•   "Celebrate the City" - a World Design Capital 2014 Project

Thurs 25th Sept 11h00 – 13h00 at Silikamva School

Celebrate the City is a World Design Capital/Cape Town 2014 linked event.  In an exciting collaboration, 20 learners from Hout Bay High will partner with 20 learners from Silikamva High School using everyday materials and simple techniques to discuss ideas and hopes for the future of Hout Bay.  A professional artist will guide them through a simple design activity to develop symbols of their dreams. These are applied to small flags, and will be displayed in Hout Bay for the duration of the Festival to enhance the festive atmosphere.

So much interest in this event we have  re-scheduled and will go BIG in October 2014…watch this space!

 

•    Two Oceans Aquarium Puppet Shows Thurs 25th & Friday 26th

The Two Oceans Aquarium is presenting its popular ocean-themed puppet shows for the younger children at several schools in Hout Bay, including Sentinel, Disa and Oranjekloof Primary.  The perfect balance between fun, fantasy and fact, puppet shows are one of the best educational tools for young children.  Each school will also receive several copies of the puppet storybooks for their libraries and classroom reading. 

 

•   Two Oceans Aquarium Mobile Unit School Visits Thurs 25th & Friday 26th

The Two Oceans mobile classroom will be visiting the Silikamva and Hout Bay High Schools on Thursday and Friday afternoon.  Oceans in Motion is one of the Aquarium’s social responsibility initiatives. By visiting the schools with their fully equipped mobile aquarium facility, Hout Bay youth will be given the opportunity to appreciate the value of living animals and the need to contribute to the conservation of our oceans for future generations. Imagine learning in an outdoor classroom with live marine animals and hands-on interactive activities to discover more about marine animals and the marine environment. •    Film Screening and talk by Denis Goldberg Thurs 25th & Friday 26th

Hout Bay High and Silikamva High Grade 9’s will enjoy a screening of “Sentenced with Mandela – The Story of Denis Goldberg.”  This ties in perfectly with the work they are currently covering in their History curriculum and will provide a unique, memorable learning experience.
